Huffman defeats Norton in matchup of state qualifiers.

2012 Athens vs. Troy vs. Wyalusing Girls XCATHENS - Wyalusing's Erika Huffman pulled away from Troy's Casey Norton to take a big step toward earning the NTL Runner of the Year award in girl's cross-country action Tuesday.

Huffman won in 19:28 with Norton coming across in 20:42.

Athens picked up two wins on the day, beating Wyalusing 24-32 and Troy 22-34. Wyalusing edged Troy 27-28.

Wildcat Paige Bennett was third in 22:11 followed by teammate Mariah Hudock in 23:24. Rounding out the top five was Wyalusing's Savannah Schools in 23:43.

In sixth was Athens' Kirstan Vanderpool (23:45) followed by teammate Michalea Courtney (23:50) in seventh. Troy took the next two spots with Cassidy Colton (24:23) in eighth and Lea Ward (25:29) in ninth. Rounding out the top 10 was Wyalusing Arielle Kneller in 25:33.

Athens' Emily Madigan was 11th in 25:48, Wyalusing's Emily Edwards was 12th in 25:51, Troy's Alana Swain was 13th in 26:15, Athens' Savannah Babcock 14th in 26:30 and Troy's Emma Simpson was 15th in 26:47.

In junior high action Troy took the top three spots led by Courtney Case in 12:49. Megan Rogers was second in 13:37 while Hailey Twarkosky was third in 13:56. Wyalusing's Hannah Corson was fourth in 14:14 while Athens' Kassie McDonald was fifth in 14:17.

Towanda 26, NEB 30; Towanda 23, Sayre 33; NEB 28, Sayre 28, NEB wins on 6th runner tie-breaker

LERAYSVILLE - Panther Lydia Werner won the race in 19:40 with Towanda's Destiny Foster (21:02) and Katelyn Purdy (21:14) in second and third.

Sayre's Katie Hurley (21:14) was fourth and Knight Danielle Zatkos (21:46) finished fifth.

Sayre's Molly O'Hara was sixth in 22:20, Northeast's Alyssa Turner took seventh in 23:13, Redskin Kathrine Porter was eighth in 23:33, Towanda's Jasmine Leyes finished ninth in 23:51 and Panther Maddy Johnson took 10th in 24:05.

Sayre's Kristin Johnson was 11th in 24:13 followed by three Panthers. Chelsie Souto (24:32) in 12th, Taylor Arnold (24:42) in 13th and Shelby Park (25:03) in 14th. Towanda's Colleen Purdy rounded the top 15 in 25:35.

In junior high action Northeast went 1-2 with Cassie Martin first in 11:38 and Karli Moyer second in 11:57. Towanda's Ezoza Ismailora was third in 12:01, Annie Williams was fourth in 12:03 and Panther Leah Russell was fifth in 12:53.

Wellsboro 15, Mansfield 50; Wellsboro 15, CV 50; Wellsboro 15, Canton 50

Mansfield took the top two spots while the Hornets swept the team standings.

Violet Learn won in 19:56 while teammate Simone Lichty was second in 20:35.

The Hornets took the next six spots led by Jada Jackson in third at 21:52. She was followed by Jordyn Coffee (21:54), Hannah Hood (22:14), Charlotte Worthington (22:31), Randi Grim (22:34) and Annie Sweeney (23:39).

Mansfield's Logan Wilson was ninth in 24:14 while Wellsboro's Baylee Mann took 10th in 24:29.

Tiger Ayla Rohl finished 11th in 24:59, Canton's Gemma Bardo was 12th in 25:08, Wellsboro's Camryn Keane was 13th in 25:34 with teammate Samantha Bailey 14th in 26:17. Canton's Allison McNett rounded out the top 15 in 28:21.

In junior high action Mansfield's Molly Craig won the girl's race in 10:29 with CV's Paige Schwartz second in 10:52. Canton's Abby Heatley was third in 11:14 while Mansfield's Britt Weiskopff was fourth in 11:33.

Kaylee Uhl won the race in IAC girl's cross-country action Tuesday. She ran a time of 23:14.9.

Teammate Katelyn Moore was second in 25:47, Kelsey Frank seventh in 26:02, Audri Frisbee eighth in 27:28 and Kylene Chandler ninth in 27:31.

Also making top 15 were Taylor Knight in 12th at 29:43 and Sydney Shaffer 14th in 31:01.

Waverly will be at Mansfield University on Saturday.
