Towanda edges Horseheads; Galeton, CV pick up wins.

TOWANDA - The Black Knights swept both doubles matches to rally from a 3-2 deficit to a 4-3 win in non-league boys' tennis action Monday in their season opener.

The teams played 9-game pro sets.

At first singles Towanda's David Rodenhizer edged Mike Entry 10-8 while at second singles Horsheads' Colby Reasons topped Kevin Blackman 9-1.

At third singles Knight Dawson Wright held on to beat Dustin McCullough 9-7 while at fourth singles Horseheads' Gavin Dewitt won over Christian Thomason 9-1.

Horseheads took the fifth singles match 9-6 as David Massey beat Logan Spencer.

Towanda would take both doubles matches, though.

At first doubles Rodenhizer and Blackman beat Massey and Ben Xu 9-0 while at second doubles Wright and Thomason defeated Amit Patel and Chris Corkoram 9-3 to secure the team win.

In exhibition action Horseheads' Blake Dixon beat Chandler Dunn 6-4 while a Horseheads team of Isaac Rockliffe and James Berdman beat Spencer and Dunn 9-6.

Also in exhbition doubles Horseheads' Geraldo Nunez and Colin Putney won over Matt McNeal and Anthony Vogel 9-0.

The Knights will start their league season Wednesday as they host Williamson, then welcome Galeton Friday.

Galeton 7, Williamson 0

The Tigers picked up a boys' tennis win Monday against a Williamson team missing their top three singles players.

At first singles Galeton's Dakota Shadle defeated Robby Satterly 6-0, 6-1 while at second singles Tiger Tyler Dugan beat Ian Morgan 6-0, 6-0.

At third singles Galeton's Mitchell Smith swept Matt Miller 6-0, 6-0 followed by teammate David Rigas beating Zach Giovannini 6-1, 6-0.

In the final singles match Galeton's Jacob Batterson beat Justin Sales 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles a Tiger duo of Shadle and Dugan beat Satterly and Dylan Abbey 6-0, 6-0 while at second doubles Smith and Ely Trimbur beat Williamson's Miller and Giovannini 6-0, 6-0.

In exhibition action Galeton's Devin Hager beat Williamson's Caleb Ransom 6-0, 6-0.

The Tigers travel to Liberty Wednesday.

The Indians improved to 4-1 in the year with a non-league boys' tennis win Monday.

At first singles CV's Chandler Mastin beat Andrew Nadas 6-3, 6-2 while at second singles Indian Brian Fulmer topped Eric Kregor 6-3, 6-0.

At third singles CV's Cameron Lewis won over Chuck DeWalt 6-3, 6-0, at fourth singles Indian Skyler Schmidt beat Jeremy Coates 6-3, 6-0 and at fifth singles Indian Nathan Pickering beat Hunter Drayer 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles CV's Mastin and Fulmer topped Nadas and Kregor 6-1, 6-4 while at second doubles Lewis and Schmidt won over Ricky Pike and Tyler Repard 6-2, 6-2.

Liberty falls to 0-1 on the year.

CV will host Wellsboro today then travel to St. John Neumann Thursday.

Liberty welcomes Galeton Wednesday.
